Legend of Zelda Botw, Ancient Bladesaw / Prop study

Plexiglas, Plywood, clay, wood and Acrylic paint, 2019

In sculpture class one of the assignments was to recreate a prop from any movie/show , video game or other media.

For this project I'd considered a ton of ideas ((Mostly being weapons from other video games)) the decision was made to recreate the Ancient saw blade from the legend of Zelda's Breath of the wild game.

The process took roughly over a month, and is as accurate as it could get to the item in game, Its 38" Tall and both complete on both sides.

The blue areas were cut from Plexiglas and then a Dremel tool was used to make the cuts more accurate and then left over plywood was cut to make the main parts of the weapon and sort of sandwiched the Plexiglas between on both sides, a large dowel pole for the handle was built in with a cut down the centre to sit in place and all wood glued and wood filtered to glue down everything. The smaller bits where hand crafted and made from a combination of wood clay and oven bake clay then also wood glued into place. The entire thing was finished off in acrylic paint, and blue tinted paint for the Plexiglas.

This project was extremely fun and I'd used a handful of techniques I was familiar with as well as some I'd never used before and I learnt a lot from it.

Though following the terms of the project its more of a decoration piece and less of a useable cosplay weapon. It does make for fun nerd decor and definitely the main topic of many conversations.
